The death of Haseena Parkar, the GodMother of Nagpada had been widely reported in 2014, given the kind of clout the lady don enjoyed in the financial capital. A lady known to have single handedly operated the operations of the D syndicate in Mumbai, she was sister to the most dreaded Dawood Ibrahim.
With the Sharaddha Kapoor starrer Haseena now in the news there is renewed interest in the life of the lady gangster.
The makers of the film have already released two posters of the film to promote the movie which features not just Shraddha Kapoor, but also has her brother Siddhanth Kapoor playing Dawood.
To be released on July 14, 2017, the film is being helmed by Apoorva Lakhia, known to have helmed movies like Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost, Ek Ajnabee, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Mission Istanbul and Zanjeer.
Actor Ankur Bhatia, is essaying the role of Haseena’s husband Ismail Parker.
The film is produced by Nahid Khan. Before Haseena, Shraddha Kapoor will be seen in Mohit Suri’s Half Girlfriend opposite Arjun Kapoor.
Haseena – The Queen of Mumbai is a film based on the life of Haseena Parker, who took charge of crime-world in her hand after husband Ismail Parker got shot in 1991 by gangster Arun Gawli. Haseena who died of a heart attack at Habib Hospital in Dongri of south Mumbai in 2014 is believed to have operated out of her home at Gordon Hall Apartments in Nagpada.
Haseena had risen to the crime world after her husband Ismail Parkar was shot dead by the Arun Gawli gang in 1991.
Dawood retaliated by killing the conspirators at the famous J.J. Hospital shootout.
The lady don had lost her son – Danish Parker in 2003 during a fatal accident on the Goa-Mumbai highway.
Interestingly she liked the Gordon Hall Apartments house so much that she simply occupied it without anyone making a whimper. Such was her clout that she got a cut in every shady transaction. From Slum Development Authority to films and from Hawala rackets to cable wars she had a keen eye on every area.
According to a report, Parkar owned undeclared assets estimated to be valued at about Rs.5,000 crores.
It is estimated that Parkar, also known as Haseena Apa, owned as many as 150 properties the details of which are not to be found in government files.
While Bollywood tells yet another tale of an underworld character, it remains to be seen if Shraddha does justice to her role in the movie and whether newbie Siddhanth Kapoor makes the cut as Dawood.
